1. What we collect

The Pulse Letter is an educational newsletter. The only information we actively ask you for is your email address, submitted through a signup form on this site.

  • Email address — collected when you submit one of the signup forms on this site, so we can deliver the newsletter.
  • Email engagement data — our email provider may record whether a message was delivered, opened, or clicked, and may log the IP address and approximate location associated with a signup or an open.
  • Basic technical data — like any website, our hosting provider processes standard request information (such as IP address, browser type, and the page requested) in order to serve the site and protect it from abuse.
What we don't collect: we do not ask for, collect, or store health information, medical history, prescriptions, diagnoses, insurance details, or payment information. Please do not send us sensitive health information by email.

2. How we use it

We use the information described above for a small, specific set of purposes:

  • To send you The Pulse Letter and related educational emails you signed up for.
  • To operate, secure, and troubleshoot this website and our email delivery.
  • To understand aggregate engagement — for example, how many readers opened an issue — so we can improve the content.
  • To comply with legal obligations and enforce our Terms of Use.

We do not use your email address for automated decision-making, and we do not attempt to infer health conditions about you.

3. Third-party processors

We use a small number of service providers to run the newsletter and the website. These providers process data on our behalf and are bound by their own terms and privacy commitments.

  • Beehiiv — our email service provider. When you submit the signup form, your email address is transmitted to and stored by Beehiiv, which hosts our subscriber list and sends our emails on our behalf. Beehiiv's handling of that data is governed by its own privacy policy, available at beehiiv.com/privacy.
  • Cloudflare — hosts and delivers this website, and processes standard request data in order to serve pages and mitigate abuse.

If we add or change a processor in a way that materially affects how your information is handled, we will update this page.

4. No sale of personal data

We do not sell your personal data to third parties. We do not rent, trade, or share your email address with advertisers, data brokers, marketers, pharmacies, telehealth companies, insurers, or any other third party for their own marketing purposes.

The only circumstances in which we disclose your information are:

  • To the service providers listed above, strictly so they can perform their function for us.
  • Where we are legally required to do so — for example, in response to a valid legal request.
  • To protect the rights, safety, or property of our readers, the public, or us.
  • In connection with a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, in which case the acquiring party would remain bound by this policy or would notify you of any change.

Affiliate links on this site (see our affiliate disclosure) do not transmit your email address or subscriber information to the linked company. If you click through and choose to give a third party your information directly, that company's privacy policy governs what happens next.

5. How long we keep it

We keep your email address for as long as you remain subscribed. If you unsubscribe, your address is marked as unsubscribed in Beehiiv so we do not email you again; you can ask us to delete it entirely at any time using the contact address below.

6. Your rights and choices

You are in control of your subscription. Depending on where you live, you may also have specific rights under laws such as the GDPR or the CCPA/CPRA. Regardless of where you live, we will honor the following requests:

  • Unsubscribe — every email we send includes a one-click unsubscribe link. You can also email us and we'll remove you.
  • Access — ask us what information we hold about you.
  • Correction — ask us to fix an inaccurate email address.
  • Deletion — ask us to delete your email address and associated records.
  • Opt out of sale or sharing — not applicable in practice, because we don't sell or share personal data for cross-context behavioral advertising.

To exercise any of these rights, email hello@thepulseletter.com. We aim to respond within 30 days. We will not discriminate against you for making a request.

7. Children's privacy

This site and newsletter are intended for adults. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13 (or under 16 where a higher age applies). If you believe a child has given us their email address, contact us and we will delete it.

8. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as the newsletter evolves or as the law changes. When we do, we'll revise the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. Material changes affecting how we use your email address will be communicated to subscribers by email.
